How to test a Base44 app before launch: checklist and independent test

This guide is for people who built an app on Base44 and are about to share it. Typical failures: an app left Public when it should be Private, data rules that let one user read another's records, a page that only works for the owner, or an update you forgot to publish.

You will get what Base44 offers for testing, a numbered plan, and a read-only outside check. Hub: AI app builders: how to test before launch.

How a Base44 app goes live

In the Base44 docs, you click Publish at the top right of the editor. The Publish panel lets you copy your link, set App visibility and connect a custom domain. Your live app changes only when you publish, while the draft can keep changing; version history can publish an earlier version, and "Compare with live code" shows what changed since your last publish. Visibility has three levels: Public (anyone, no sign-in), Private (invited people only, paid plans) and Workspace (your workspace members, signed in).

What Base44's own testing does well

The editor documents several tools: a preview with desktop, tablet and mobile views; "Act as a user" to see the app as a given user or role; a Testing agent, an AI agent that tests your app; an Activity monitor; Logs; and a Security scan in the dashboard. A Test Data option creates a separate empty database (Builder plan or higher), with a testing link so teammates can try unpublished changes without touching live records. The published app always uses production data.

Base44's security overview also lists what you should check yourself: data access rules, app visibility, the security scan before publishing, security headers and secrets.

Where problems usually hide

Pre-launch test plan for a Base44 app

  1. Decide the intended visibility, then check the App Visibility setting matches it.
  2. Publish, then open the live link in a private window.
  3. Walk through every page as a signed-out visitor. Private pages should ask for sign-in.
  4. Create a fresh test user and sign in the way a real user will.
  5. Use "Act as a user" for each role and compare what each sees.
  6. With two test users, check that user A cannot see or edit user B's records.
  7. Submit every form with valid, empty and wrong data and read the messages.
  8. Turn on Test Data and try creating, editing and deleting records without touching live data.
  9. Run the security scan and fix what it reports.
  10. Open Logs after a few visits and look for errors.
  11. Check the app on a real phone and a narrow window.
  12. Use the keyboard alone on the main journey; focus must stay visible.
  13. Republish after fixes and repeat steps 2 to 4.

Ordering your fixes

Treat anything that blocks sign-in, saving data or reaching the main page as a blocker and fix it first. Then handle visible weaknesses such as phone layouts and unclear messages, and leave small wording points for later. Fix one group at a time, publish, and re-check, so you can tell which change solved which problem and go back to an earlier version if needed.

What an independent test adds

An agent testing its own app knows how it was meant to work. An independent test knows nothing of the build: it opens the live address in real browsers, as a visitor, and reports evidence. It is a second pair of eyes, not a substitute for your own judgement.

Test your Base44 app with Avalyz

Avalyz is read-only by default: it creates and changes nothing on your app.

Avalyz proves what it saw and does not promise the rest. Related: test a Lovable app, test a v0 app, test a vibe-coded app.

FAQ

Can I try changes without touching live data?

Yes, with Test Data (Builder plan or higher) and its testing link, as documented by Base44.

Does "Act as a user" modify data?

Changes made in that mode are saved to the selected user's data, so use test users.

Is Public or Private right for launch?

It depends on your audience. Public needs no sign-in; Private is for invited users on paid plans. Check it deliberately.

Can an AI test an app built by an AI?

Yes, when it is independent from the one that wrote the app. Avalyz does not see your code.
